Khadija El Kharraz Alami

& Cheb Runner

AJJIT

In AJJIT, Khadija is collaborating with the artist and music producer Reda Senhaji (Cheb Runner). They practice different disciplines but share a rich and complex cultural identity. This is manifested in the polyrhythms found in, among others, various North African music genres. In their research on awakening pre-capitalist bodies, Khadija and Reda delve into the different musical genres in Morocco, such as Ahwach, Gnaoua, Ghaita, Chaabi, and Issawa, in search of stories, rhythms, and movements that celebrate their complexities. Showing and honouring the beauty of carrying a complex identity in many dimensions and inviting it to be is an attempt and a desire to make complexity tangible. What can the function of the performing arts be in today's collapse of democracy, empires, and capitalism, beyond the reflection of the times we live in? Can the act and notion of togetherness, during the performance, contribute to an active speculation and reconstruction of the human body, the body as a mass, in our collapsing societies?
