Billy Morgan

Métropolitaine

Billy Morgan works between performance, text and installation. Her work foregrounds the fictionality of the body and its splitness. The estrangement of established frameworks (linguistic, relational, narrative, historical) is at its heart. This twist pivots around language and movement, which she treats as the excesses internal to the body.

Métropolitaine follows Céline and Sophie, two captives of the metropole, as they are eventually apprehended. In London, Sophie goes down to the kiosk to report her lover, Céline, as missing. In Paris, Céline opens the newspaper to discover that her lover, Sophie, has disappeared. Métropolitaine explores capture as a byproduct of a life lived under capital, and the repercussions for the spirit.
