Anamaria Klajnšček

Vulneri

To be in the world means sharing space with others. Human tendency to expand into the environment is often presented as a survival instinct. Behind this instinct, however, is often an illusion that freedom only resides where we are in total control. In Vulneri, Anamaria Klajnšček approaches this topic on a material level: she places three dances on a one-square-meter surface. Their cohabitation in a small space de-abstracts the concept of freedom. Terror and imperialistic expropriation are always at hand – as is well known from human history –, but in this performance, the dancers point to another possibility, namely, to sensibility and solidarity, both of which call for a full understanding of the concept of cohabitation. For cohabitation to be possible, movements need to be delicate, bodies need to be flexible, and there needs to be cooperation between them. For if two out of three people on a one-square-meter surface fail, i.e. if the forces of their relationship destroy them, the third person simply remains alone. But does being alone still involve a sense of freedom?
